My name is Theresa Walsh and I’m a singer-songwriter from Bruce County, Ontario. I create within a folk pop lens, and always have a piano, guitar, and ukulele at my hands. I have independently mixed, produced, and recorded all of my own songs and I am most passionate about telling stories through the music I make.
Growing up in small town Ontario has always had an influence on me and my music. You could almost call this a ‘small-town girl finds her home in a big city’ type of story. I grew up with long bus rides to school, weekend bonfires, and camp outs in many backyards. Between the angsty teenage years, longing for something more, and realizing that ‘something’ wasn’t in a business degree, I’ve ended up in the big city of Toronto, studying music.
As an artist, I aim to project my sound through catchy melodies and dairy-entry like lyrics. Some of my major artist inspirations include Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Lorde, and the Lumineers. I’m drawn to the personal and theatrical side of music, where I often write about experiences, dreams, and TV show/movie plots that move me. I’m influenced by changing seasons, different sounding instruments, taking public transportation, and the overall narrative of everyday life. I pursue my art because I feel my most comfortable and exhilarated when creating music. I feel as though I have something to add, whether it’s my voice, lyrics, or melodies.
I’ve been performing for a few years now, playing throughout Ontario in locations like Owen Sound, Guelph, and Toronto. I love bringing my music to life on stage through my different songs and humourous stories that all coincide with being a drama queen.
Some notable performances include Winterfolk Festival 2023 (Toronto,ON) and 2022 Owen Sound Waterfront Festival (Owen Sound, ON). I am also a local performer at Toronto classics like the Painted Lady, Free Times Cafe, and Supermarket Variety.
